Sovereign Funds Roundtables
Institutional Investor’s Sovereign and Government Funds Roundtables are high-level forums for government investment funds where officials from central banks, sovereign pension and commodity funds and state investment corporations meet to discuss governance and structural issues and investment strategy.
Presentations and discussions are educational and often prescriptive in tenor, and run the gamut of local and global issues, domestic and foreign investment, fund governance and disclosure and internal and external asset management. Emphasis is placed on peer-to-peer contact, with ample networking time built into each program. The Roundtables are private--the press is barred from attendance--thereby increasing the comfort of the attendees and the openness of the commentary.
II first hosted a Sovereign Funds Roundtable in London in 2004. We then included—and still do—all government investment funds (central bank reserves, state pension investment and commodity funds wealth funds) under the term sovereign funds. As central banks have continued to expand their investment horizons and as more and more countries have established new government investment units (also known as sovereign wealth funds) from commodity wealth and abundant foreign exchange reserves we have expanded our roster of Sovereign Roundtables.
Institutional Investor currently hosts three of these Roundtables annually.
Sovereign Funds Central
Sovereign Funds Central is a communal meeting place for officials from central banks, finance ministries and other government investment funds. With ballooning foreign exchange reserves and the rapid establishment of a variety of government investment funds in recent years there has arisen a strong need among executives in the sector for more information on fund structure, governance, investment strategy and other questions pertaining to management and best practices. Sovereign Funds Central contributes to this information flow with news links, research and analysis, bulletin boards and discussion forums.

Institutional Investor Memberships/Conferences
Institutional Investor’s Sovereign Funds Roundtables are organized by the Memberships/ Conferences Division of II. The Sovereign Funds Roundtables are patterned after the Roundtables of II Memberships. II Memberships are private societies of executives at investment management firms in the U.S. and Europe who come together at roundtable meetings and in small discussion groups to meet each other and to discuss critical industry issues.
There are 12 separate Memberships, each named an Institute or Forum and each geared to a different executive level. There are separate membership groups for CEOs, traders, institutional sales leaders, chief legal officers, heads of fixed income, chief technology officers, and mutual fund marketing executives. They all are part of the Institutional Investor (magazine) Conference Department. More than 400 asset management firms are members of Institutional Investor’s Institutes and Forums. Most are members of more than one membership group. Together, these firms are responsible for the investment of the vast majority of AUM in the world’s financial markets. To learn more about each II Membership Group, please visit www. iimemberships.com
II Memberships/Conferences are part of the Institutional Investor, Inc, which publishes Institutional Investor magazine and a series of journals and newsletters. It is wholly owned by Euromoney Institutional Investor LLC, a publicly held company listed on the London Stock Exchange.
